Widespread Panic Day in Denver

MAYOR JOHN HICKENLOOPER PROCLAIMS “WIDESPREAD PANIC DAY” IN DENVER

At the end of Widespread Panic’s sold-out run this weekend, the band will have played 32 Sold Out shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre - more than any other band in the venue’s history. Red Rocks officials will honor the band with a special award presentation, and a mayoral proclamation calling Friday, June 27 “Widespread Panic Day” in the City and County of Denver.

Sad to say, I won’t be attending any shows this weekend (I think)!

Rufus Wainwright Benefit Event

As a gift for my 31st Birthday, my lovely fiance hooked us up with a pair of tickets to an exclusive concert in Aspen, Colorado. The artist… one of my favs… Rufus Wainwright.

This time of year, Aspen is such a long drive, but it was so worth it. We had to get lodging in Glenwood Springs (45 minutes from Aspen) just to find a hotel within our budget, but still ended up paying $175 after taxes for one night.

Aspen was gorgeous… even at night. The entire town was covered in a thick blanket of snow. Each house, shop, boutique, etc. was covered in at least a foot and a half of snow.

The show was short but amazing. He played just about everything I wanted to hear, and definitely my favorites. We stood practically front and center. The venue was the Belly Up and was the perfect size for this show. We claimed our spots at the front of the stage, just a few feet to the right and remained there through the entire show… singing along to the songs we knew, and laughing at all of the women who were literally melting away as Rufus sang. I think the fact that he is a very flamboyant artist makes him that much more appealing to women. He fought them off as best and as polite as he could, but they still persisted.

Thank you Amber for introducing me to his fantastic music and songwriting.

After the show, we looked for somewhere to grab a couple of drinks before driving back to Glenwood Springs, but had no luck finding anyplace open.

If you ever get a chance to see Rufus perform… don’t pass it up. If you are looking for a couple good songs to be introduced to his stuff with… I suggest “Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk” and “California”.

You should be able to view most of his songs for download off of iTunes here.
But if you don’t want to purchase the songs… you can listen to some of the favs from my collection here:

Even though there was a big sign saying “Absolutely no photography, video, or audio recording!”, I managed to snap a few pics with the iPhone.
